Life is a journey, do you know where you are going?
Whether we like it or not, our life is a journey.
Even if we haven’t got a destination in view, we are still walking along a spiritual pathway.
Your life is a journey where will it take you?
It is amazing how many people believe that when our life’s journey is over then that is not the end.
Many believe that they will meet their loved ones, that they will be with them forever.
Some believe that death is the end, there is nothing beyond that moment.
Others believe that they will return to this earth as something else.
We can agree that life is a journey but how can we find out what happens after that?
If we want to find out what it is like to go canoeing then we would ask someone who has done that.
So I would suggest that we listen to someone who has been beyond death and I don’t mean those who claim to talk to the spirit world.
In the Bible it says who not to ask:
When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
Jesus, whose other name is the Son of Man, is the One to ask because he has said that he came from heaven:
Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.
I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.”
On another occasion Jesus spoke about Abraham who had lived more than 1900 years before Jesus, yet Jesus said:
Though you do not know him (God), I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.
Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
“You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
That term ‘I am’ refers to being God and that is why the people who heard him say that immediately picked up stones to kill Jesus.
Once Jesus was telling the disciples about heaven, he said:
My Father’s house (heaven) has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
You know the way to the place where I am going.”
But Thomas didn’t know the way and he said to Jesus:
Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’
Jesus answered; ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through Me.’ ”
On another occasion Jesus said:
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
There is only one narrow way to heaven, to everlasting life.
And our live’s journey can be rough at times – it can be difficult to keep on the best track.
Where do all the other routes lead to?
They all end in the same place. Where’s that?
“Destruction” ….hell! We can’t fudge this one!
If we want to get to heaven we need to listen to what Jesus is telling us.
A Christian should have heaven as their destination.
They shouldn’t get too settled in this world, because heaven is to be their eternal home.
