Caesarea Philippi with it's temples and idols. Simon Peters confession of Jesus Christ.

Simon Peters confession of Jesus Christ. Follow Atticus and Tabitha as they journey to Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus asks his disciples what people are saying about him.
Then we walk into the conversation with his disciples, where Jesus asks them a very personal question.
Watch now and reflect on the question Jesus still asks us today.

POLO: Tabitha and Atticus loved to follow Jesus whenever they could. Today, they were in Caesarea Philippi, which is 25 miles north of the Sea of Galilee. They were a long way from home. This city had a lot of pagan worship, and there were lots of statues of pagan gods, such as Hermes, Pan, and Augustus.

TABITHA: Jesus and some of his disciples are standing near that rock wall with all those statues.

ATTICUS: Did you hear what Jesus just asked them? ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’

TABITHA: Who is the Son of Man?

ATTICUS: Jesus often uses this title as a nickname or a code name for himself. The title Son of Man comes from the prophet Daniel.

TABITHA: Oh, I remember now, Daniel speaks of this Son of Man being given an everlasting kingdom, and he is a picture of the promised Messiah, someone who is both God and man.

ATTICUS: So, Jesus’ question, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ is a very deep question.

TABITHA: The disciples must know that Jesus is referring to himself.

ATTICUS: Yes, it is like Jesus is saying, ‘Who do people say I am?’

TABITHA: The disciples are now answering Jesus. They are saying, “Some think you are John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and still others, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets.”

ATTICUS: Hang on, Jesus is asking them another question.

TABITHA: Jesus is asking them, ‘But who do you yourselves say that I am?’

ATTICUS: Oh, that has put them on the spot. How have they answered that question?

TABITHA: Simon Peter is giving an answer. He has just said, “You are the Christ, the promised Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

ATTICUS: Jesus is telling Peter that he is blessed because this was revealed, not by mankind, but by God the Father, who is in heaven.

TABITHA: So, it would be good to ask ourselves the same question: ‘Who do you say Jesus is?’
