Who runs this website?
I (Peter Reason) solely maintain this site and pay for its upkeep.
What personal data is collected and why:

Analytics:

There are NO analytic tracking systems on this site. I do NOT wish to know which sites you go on to view.

Cookies:

Any cookies that this website creates are necessary, which the GDPR call ‘functional cookies’ and are stored on your browser as they are essential for the working of the website and for security. They do NOT store any personal information.

I use one cookie to see the number of people who visit the pages on my website and it collects NO personal info. The details are below:

pvc_visits_* Checks which website page has been viewed. Holds no personal info. Expires in less than 24 hours.

If you leave a comment:

When visitors leave comments on this site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
None of this information is passed onto anybody else or any organisation. I do not sell email lists or any such thing to other parties.

Profile Gravatar image:

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service (they provide the profile image) to see if you are using it.
The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here at Automatic (opens in a new window).
After approval of your comment, if you’ve got a profile picture this will become visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Using the Contact form:

Your name, email and your message are only held for the purpose of answering your question or responding to you.
None of this information is passed onto anybody else or any organisation. I do not sell email lists or any such thing to other parties.
Communications may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Google runs the reCAPTCHA on the form. It works by collecting hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sending this data to Google for analysis. The information collected in connection with your use of the service will be used for improving reCAPTCHA and for general security purposes. It will not be used for personalised advertising by Google.

Embedded content from other websites:

Very occasionally an article on this site may include an embedded video. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long is your data retained:

If you leave a comment or use the Contact Form, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have left comments or have filled in the Contact Form you can request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
