Pre war real life story:

An ex-WW1 Royal Army Medical Corps stretcher bearer in France married the daughter of Rev. John and Elizabeth Haydon in 1922.
Eight years later Christine was born and raised in South Woodford, London.

The outbreak of world war two:

An idyllic childhood came to an end in 1939 when war was declared.
She, with her mother then left London, never to return, and travelled to Buckinghamshire.
In September 1939 Christine was evacuated to an aunt in Rye, Sussex.
Due to the air battles over the Channel, she was again evacuated to her grandparents in Buckinghamshire.
From the Anderson’s shelter, they could observe the Blitz and the bombing of the London Docks…
