Knowing God as father

Light from heaven shines on a man, knowing God as father.
Light from heaven shines on a man, knowing God as father.

We’ve looked at what God is like (i) in a previous post, but we didn’t look at knowing God as father, as our Heavenly Father.

Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name.”

And John wrote:

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

1 John 3:1
A father figure with two children making a cake.
A father figure with two children.

If we are believing and trusting Jesus Christ, then that is what we are; children of the living God.

But many people will not have God as their father.
He will be unknown to them.
Jesus came across many who refused to submit to His teaching, and He said to them;

If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I came from God and now I am here.
I have not come on My own; but He sent Me.
Why is My language not clear to you?
Because you are unable to hear what I say.
You belong to your father the devil.”

John 8:42

What an abrupt thing to say!
But it needed to be said.
We all need to ask ourselves the question; ‘Who is my father?’
Not who is our earthly blood father.
But is God our Father, or is the Devil our father?
If it is the latter, we will have a bitter eternity.
If God is our Father then what peace and joy is stored up for us!

Quote from the bible:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
John 3:16-18
